Lecture February 14

We treated the following topics:

• Solution of Exercise on Mathematical Programs for Graph Coloring.

• Overview of software tools for Local Search and Metaheuristic Methods.

• Practical exercise: implementation of local search procedures for the $1\vert\vert\sum_j w_j T_j$ problem.

• Complexity, speed ups and pruning in neighrobhood examination for the $1\vert\vert\sum_j w_j T_j$ problem.

The next lecture we will look at constraint programming from the practical perspective.

It is highly recommended that the students install Gecode, the MiniZinc to FlatZinc interpreter and the FlatZinc/Gecode interface.

A short introduction to the MiniZinc language is given in Section 2 of this paper. A tutorial is also available.
