ABOUT ME

Professor of Data Science
Head of the Centre for Visual Data Science
Head of the Centre for Digital Humanities

I received my PhD degree in computer science in 2016 from Leipzig University, and I was appointed to full professor by the University of Southern Denmark in 2023. In my research, I gained broad experience in developing information visualization and visual analytics techniques in various interdisciplinary projects addressing current research questions in (digital) humanities, linguistics, social sciences, biology and sports. My interest in data science is founded in the aim to bridge the gap between computer science and application areas by developing sophisticated visual interfaces in a participatory visual design approach, aiming to generate gold standard data sets and develop new data science methodologies. A further target of my research is developing science communication tools for a general public audience. My currently funded projects both aim to support experts as well as general public users for gaining domain insights.
